El Malecón, Sunset
This piece is an impressionist, digitally modified version of a photograph I took at Havana’s waterfront promenade, El Malecón, in September 2024. I altered the original photo to emphasize the symbolic meaning of the sea for people in contemporary Cuba - it is both the connection and the border between the island and the outside world. The swaying motion indicated in the photo stands for the desire of Cubans to leave their home, and the nostalgia to return to it.
This photo is part of a series, entitled Captured Landscapes, Cuba - New York, a multimedia collaboration between a Cuban jazz pianist and composer, Elio Villafranca, and myself. An art-documentary photography project, Captured Landscapes does not shy away from the realities of contemporary Havana life but its goal is not to shock - it is to humanize and to participate. Perfect for collectors or for anyone interested in exploring a variety of cultures in a truthful and artistic way.
Options for canvas or metal prints. Frame not included. Canvas texture resembles a painting, metal prints are a modern option for photography exhibits. Archival canvas over 1.5 inch frame, with back panel for added elegance and durability. Both versions come ready to hang.
Limited edition, only 20 for sale.
A portion of ALL Havana photography gallery sales will go to people I met and worked with in Havana. Your purchase helps where it is most needed, independent from governments or nonprofit organizations. To learn more about our project, please click here.
